Key Takeaways

  • Amazon runs more than 100 operations buildings in the UK. Around 30 are fulfilment centres that store stock and pick orders. The rest are sortation centres, delivery stations, cross docks and partner-run sites.
  • The largest is Tilbury (LCY2) in Essex at about 2 million square feet. The new Kettering cross dock (EMA5) is the largest cross dock in the network and moves goods through rather than storing them.
  • 2026 brought new fulfilment centres in Northampton and Hull, the Kettering cross dock, a Peterborough distribution centre due in autumn and a new delivery station in Stockton-on-Tees. Stockton is a new opening.
  • Codes follow airports: LCY2 is London, MAN1 is Manchester, BHX4 is Birmingham, EMA1 is East Midlands, LBA2 is Leeds Bradford. A leading X means a partner-run site with no published address.
  • Your FBA shipment goes to whichever site Seller Central assigns, which is often not the nearest one. Ship only to the address in the plan. If you want the inbound leg handled for you, AMZ Prep's five UK facilities prep and deliver into every site on this list.
The Short Answer

How many Amazon warehouses are there in the UK?

Amazon's own figure is more than 100 operations buildings across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. That number includes everything with an Amazon badge on the door. The figure most people actually want is the number of fulfilment centres, the big sites where inventory is stored and customer orders are picked and packed. There are around 30 of those, and the count moved up in 2026 with Northampton and Hull.

The two numbers get mixed up in a lot of published lists, which is why one article says 25 and another says 100. Fulfilment centres take inbound FBA shipments. Delivery stations do not. Sortation centres and cross docks sit in between and move parcels and cases through the network. The site types section below explains what each one does. This page covers the UK only; the US, Canada and other countries are on the worldwide Amazon FBA locations directory.

What Changed

New Amazon warehouses in the UK, 2026

In 2025 Amazon announced a £40 billion UK investment running to 2027, including four new fulfilment centres. One year in, this is what has opened or been confirmed.

Northampton fulfilment centre

Opened June 2026 at SEGRO Logistics Park Northampton. A £500 million three-floor robotics site announced with more than 2,000 jobs, and one of the most automated buildings in the UK network.

  • Status: open, receiving inventory
  • Region: East Midlands

Hull fulfilment centre

Opened in 2026 with around 2,000 jobs, giving the Humber region its first fulfilment centre. Previously, the nearest sites were the Doncaster iPort cluster and Leeds.

  • Status: open
  • Region: Yorkshire and the Humber

Kettering cross dock (EMA5)

Announced June 2026 at Symmetry Park, Kettering. At about 900,000 square feet it is the largest cross dock in Amazon's UK network, built to sort and route around 20 million items a week to fulfilment centres.

  • Status: recruiting around 2,000 roles
  • Note: a cross dock rather than an FBA receiving site

Peterborough distribution centre

Announced to launch in autumn 2026 with more than 1,400 jobs. Its job is to replenish fulfilment centres across the UK, so it sits upstream of the existing Peterborough fulfilment centre (EUK5).

  • Status: launching autumn 2026
  • Region: East of England

Stockton-on-Tees delivery station

A £40 million delivery station under construction for an autumn 2026 opening, with around 100 jobs. It is Amazon's first UK building pursuing zero-carbon certification. Searches asking whether Stockton is closing have it backwards.

  • Status: opening autumn 2026
  • Region: North East

Darlington drone deliveries

Amazon's first UK drone delivery operation runs from the Darlington site (MME1), confirmed in Amazon's June 2026 one-year update on the investment programme.

  • Status: live
  • Region: North East

List of Amazon warehouses in the UK by region

Fulfilment centres first, grouped by region, with the code and postcode carriers use. Delivery stations and partner sites are covered further down in the code lookup. Always confirm the exact ship-to address in your Seller Central shipping plan before booking freight. On Google Maps each site is listed under its code, in the form "Amazon LCY2 (Tilbury)" or "Amazon UK MAN1", so searching the code with "Amazon UK" in front gives you the map pin and opening hours.

Code Decoder

Amazon UK warehouse codes explained

Every Amazon site has a four-character code. For most fulfilment centres the first three letters are the IATA code of the nearest major airport and the digit separates buildings in that catchment. The letters tell you the region even when you have never heard of the town.

  • LCY London City (Tilbury, Dartford, Rochester). LTN Luton (Bedfordshire sites). STN Stansted.
  • BHX Birmingham. EMA East Midlands. MAN Manchester. LPL Liverpool.
  • LBA Leeds Bradford. MME Teesside. NCL Newcastle. BRS Bristol.
  • EDI Edinburgh. CWL Cardiff. BT Belfast (used in delivery station codes).
  • D prefix: delivery station, the last stop before a parcel reaches a customer. Delivery stations do not accept FBA inbound.
  • X prefix: a partner-operated site. A third-party logistics company runs the building. Amazon does not publish the address.
  • EUK, UUK, RUK, XUK: internal designations for specific functions such as returns and overflow that do not follow the airport pattern.

Codes sellers search for most

These are the destination codes that appear in UK shipping plans and get searched most often. Where Amazon publishes the address, it is listed. Where it does not, the only valid address is the one in your plan.

The ship-to address in your Seller Central plan is the only one Amazon will check in. Do not substitute a nearby fulfilment centre.

Why the address in your plan matters more than any list. Amazon's receiving dock matches the shipment ID on your carton labels to the site the plan was created for. A carton delivered to a different Amazon building, even one 10 minutes away, is refused at the gate or logged as a misrouted shipment and can take weeks to reconcile. It is one of the most common reasons UK sellers end up with a shipment that shows as delivered but never checked in.

Fulfilment Centre vs Depot vs Delivery Station

What each type of Amazon site actually does

"Amazon depot" and "Amazon warehouse" get used for all of these. They do different jobs, and only one type accepts your FBA shipment. This is the UK network specifically; for the worldwide directory and code list see Amazon FBA locations worldwide.

Fulfilment centre (FC)

Stores inventory, picks and packs customer orders, and receives inbound FBA shipments. Sizes run from 300,000 to 2 million square feet. Codes like LCY2, MAN1, BHX4.

Accepts FBA inbound: yes.

Inbound cross dock (IXD)

Receives bulk inbound stock and routes it to the right fulfilment centres without storing it long term. Kettering EMA5 is the UK's largest. Amazon may route your shipment here, but you do not choose it.

Accepts FBA inbound: only when assigned in your plan.

Sortation centre (SC)

Sorts packed customer orders by postcode and hands them to carriers or Amazon's own delivery network. Bathgate SEH1 and Bardon SNG1 are examples.

Accepts FBA inbound: no.

Delivery station (DS)

The last building a parcel passes through before a driver takes it to the customer. Every D-coded site on this page. Usually under 100,000 square feet and close to population centres.

Accepts FBA inbound: no.

Returns centre

Grades customer returns and decides whether stock goes back to sellable inventory, becomes unfulfillable or is disposed of. UUK3 in Birmingham handles returns work for the UK.

Accepts FBA inbound: no.

Partner-operated site (X prefix)

Run by a third-party logistics company under contract. Used for overflow, oversized goods and specialist inbound. Addresses are not published and can change when contracts move.

Accepts FBA inbound: only when assigned in your plan.

Seller Guide

Before you ship to an Amazon UK warehouse

Ten checks that prevent the most common inbound failures at UK fulfilment centres.

1

Ship to the plan address only

The site in your shipping plan is the only one that will check your cartons in. Proximity does not matter.

2

Expect splits

One plan can be split across two to four fulfilment centres. Each split has its own labels and its own delivery appointment.

3

Book the dock appointment before pickup

Pallet deliveries to UK FCs need a booked slot through Amazon's carrier portal. Unbooked trucks are turned away.

4

Use the right pallet spec

Standard UK pallets (1200 x 1000 mm), maximum 1.8 m high including the pallet, shrink-wrapped, with the shipment label on at least one face.

5

Every unit scannable

FNSKU labels on each unit, carton labels on each box, no mixed SKUs in a carton unless the plan allows it.

6

Clear customs first

Imports from outside the UK need an EORI, a UK importer of record and duty and VAT settled before the carrier arrives at the FC. Amazon will not act as importer.

7

Check the receiving window

UK fulfilment centres have receiving cut-offs and capacity limits that tighten from October. Plan Q4 inbound in September.

8

Keep the shipment ID visible

The FBA shipment ID is how the dock reconciles your delivery. Keep it on the carton label, the pallet label and the BOL.

9

Track check-in, not delivery

A proof of delivery is not a check-in. Receiving at busy sites can take several days after the truck leaves.

10

Use a prep partner for the inbound leg

A UK 3PL that preps and delivers to Amazon handles appointments, labels and splits for you, and holds overflow stock so you are not storing it at Amazon rates.

Careers

Working at an Amazon warehouse in the UK: pay, hours and how to apply

Most searches for "Amazon warehouse UK" are about jobs rather than shipping. The current figures, from Amazon's September 2026 pay announcement.

How much Amazon warehouse pay per hour in the UK

From 27 September 2026, minimum starting pay for frontline operations roles is £15.10 or £16.10 an hour depending on location, with the higher rate at sites around London and the South East. Amazon puts starting salaries at more than £31,000 a year and says minimum starting pay has risen 44% since 2022.

  • Sept 2025 rates were £14.30 to £15.30
  • Sept 2024 rates were £13.50 to £14.50
  • Night and weekend shifts carry premiums on top

How to get a job in an Amazon warehouse

Hourly warehouse roles are applied for on Amazon's UK jobs site, amazon.jobs, filtered by location. There is no CV or interview for most frontline roles: you complete the online application, pick a shift pattern, and are invited to a hiring event or induction session with a right-to-work check.

  • Roles: warehouse operative, inbound and outbound associate, delivery station associate, sortation associate
  • Seasonal hiring opens each autumn; Amazon hired more than 15,000 seasonal staff in the UK for Christmas 2025
  • New sites in Northampton, Hull and Kettering are each recruiting around 2,000 roles

Delivery, Flex and work from home

Amazon Flex is a self-employed delivery role that collects from delivery stations (the D-coded sites on this page) and is applied for through the Flex app, not the jobs site. Warehouse and delivery station roles are on site. "Amazon jobs UK from home" refers to customer service and corporate roles, which are listed separately on amazon.jobs.

  • Benefits from day one include private medical insurance, a pension, and the Career Choice programme funding up to £3,000 a year of training

Pay figures are Amazon's published minimum starting rates and change each September. AMZ Prep is not affiliated with Amazon's recruitment; apply through Amazon's own channels.

FAQ

Amazon warehouses in the UK: frequently asked questions

Where are the Amazon warehouses in the UK?
+

Amazon's UK fulfilment centres cluster in five areas: the Thames estuary east of London (Tilbury LCY2, Dartford LCY3, Rochester LCY8), Bedfordshire (Marston Gate LTN1, Dunstable LTN4, Bedford LTN7), the Midlands (Rugeley BHX1, Coalville BHX2, Daventry BHX3, Coventry BHX4, Rugby BHX5, Hinckley BHX7, Redditch BHX8, Minworth EMA4, East Midlands Gateway EMA1, Sutton-in-Ashfield EMA2, Eastwood EMA3, plus the new Northampton site), the North West (Manchester Airport MAN1, Warrington MAN2, Bolton MAN3, Haydock MAN8) and Yorkshire and the North East (Doncaster LBA2, LBA3, LBA4, Leeds LBA8, Chesterfield MAN4, Darlington MME1, Durham MME2, Gateshead NCL1, plus the new Hull site). Outside England there is Dunfermline (EDI4) in Scotland and Swansea (CWL1) in Wales. The full address list on this page gives the postcode for each.

How many Amazon warehouses are there in the UK?
+

Amazon says it runs more than 100 operations buildings in the UK. Around 30 of those are fulfilment centres, the large sites that store inventory and pick customer orders. The rest are sortation centres, delivery stations, cross docks and partner-operated sites. The fulfilment centre count moved up in 2026 with new buildings in Northampton and Hull and a cross dock in Kettering.

What is the biggest Amazon warehouse in the UK?
+

Tilbury (LCY2) in Essex is the largest Amazon fulfilment centre in the UK at about 2 million square feet, at London Distribution Park, Windrush Road, Tilbury RM18 7AN. The new Kettering cross dock (EMA5), announced in June 2026, is the largest cross dock in the network at about 900,000 square feet and is built to route around 20 million items a week rather than store them.

Where is my nearest Amazon warehouse?
+

It depends on which region you are in. London is served from Tilbury (LCY2), Dartford (LCY3) and Rochester (LCY8). Birmingham and the Midlands have Rugeley (BHX1), Coventry (BHX4), Minworth (EMA4), Rugby (BHX5) and Hinckley (BHX7). Manchester has Manchester Airport (MAN1), Warrington (MAN2), Bolton (MAN3) and Haydock (MAN8). Yorkshire has Doncaster (LBA2, LBA3, LBA4) and Leeds (LBA8). Scotland has Dunfermline (EDI4) and Wales has Swansea (CWL1). The regional finder on this page lists each one with its address.

Is there an Amazon warehouse in Birmingham?
+

Yes. Birmingham has the Minworth fulfilment centre (EMA4) in Sutton Coldfield, the Tyseley delivery station (DBI2) at Battery Way B11 3RE, and the Erdington returns and overflow site (UUK3) at Wingfoot Way B24 9HF. Within 25 miles are the Rugeley (BHX1), Coventry (BHX4), Rugby (BHX5) and Redditch (BHX8) fulfilment centres, which makes the West Midlands the densest Amazon cluster in the country.

What do Amazon warehouse codes like LCY2 or MAN1 mean?
+

The three letters are usually the IATA code of the nearest major airport and the number separates sites in that catchment. LCY is London City, MAN is Manchester, BHX is Birmingham, EMA is East Midlands, LBA is Leeds Bradford, LTN is Luton, EDI is Edinburgh, CWL is Cardiff, BRS is Bristol, MME is Teesside and NCL is Newcastle. A leading D marks a delivery station, a leading X marks a partner-operated site, and codes such as EUK5 or UUK3 are internal designations that do not follow the airport pattern.

What is XEM4 Amazon?
+

XEM4 is a partner-operated site in Amazon's East Midlands catchment. The X prefix means a third-party logistics company runs the building on Amazon's behalf. Amazon does not publish street addresses for X-coded sites. If your shipping plan routes inventory to XEM4, use the exact ship-to address shown in Seller Central, which is the only address Amazon will accept inbound freight at.

Which Amazon warehouses opened in the UK in 2026?
+

Amazon opened a robotics fulfilment centre at SEGRO Logistics Park in Northampton in June 2026 and a fulfilment centre in Hull in 2026, each announced with around 2,000 jobs. It also announced EMA5, a 900,000 square foot inbound cross dock at Symmetry Park in Kettering, a distribution centre in Peterborough due to launch in autumn 2026, and a delivery station in Stockton-on-Tees. These sit inside the £40 billion UK investment Amazon announced for 2025 to 2027.

Is the Amazon Stockton warehouse closing?
+

No. The Stockton-on-Tees site is a new delivery station that Amazon started building in 2026, with an opening planned for autumn 2026. It is the first Amazon building in the UK pursuing zero-carbon certification. The sites Amazon has closed in the UK in recent years are Hemel Hempstead (LTN2), the original Doncaster fulfilment centre at Balby Carr Bank (LBA1) and Gourock (GLA1), all in 2023.

Can I buy directly from an Amazon warehouse?
+

No. Amazon fulfilment centres are secure operational buildings with no shop, counter or collection desk, and you cannot walk in to buy or collect an order. The confusion comes from "Amazon Warehouse", which is also the name of Amazon's online storefront for returned, open-box and refurbished items sold at a discount on amazon.co.uk. That store is a listing filter, not a place. Amazon does run free booked public tours at a few UK sites, including Manchester Airport (MAN1) and Swindon (BRS2), through its Amazon Tours programme.

What is the Amazon warehouse UK contact number?
+

Amazon does not publish phone numbers for individual fulfilment centres, and sites do not take calls about customer orders or seller shipments. Customers should use the Help section of their Amazon account or Amazon's UK customer service line. Sellers should open a case in Seller Support or use the Fulfilment Centre Appointment Request tool for delivery scheduling questions. Carriers book appointments through Amazon's carrier portal.

How do I get a job in an Amazon warehouse in the UK?
+

Apply on Amazon's UK jobs site, amazon.jobs, and filter by location to see the warehouse operative, delivery station associate and sortation roles near you. Most hourly roles have no CV or interview: you complete the online application, choose a shift pattern and attend a hiring event or induction with a right-to-work check. Seasonal hiring opens each autumn, and the new sites in Northampton, Hull and Kettering are each recruiting around 2,000 people.

How much does an Amazon warehouse pay per hour in the UK?
+

From 27 September 2026, Amazon's minimum starting pay for frontline operations roles is £15.10 or £16.10 an hour depending on location, which Amazon says is more than £31,000 a year and a 44% rise since 2022. The rates a year earlier were £14.30 and £15.30. Night and weekend shifts pay a premium on top of the base rate.

Which Amazon warehouses in the UK handle returns?
+

Customer returns are routed to dedicated returns processing sites and to specific fulfilment centres based on the item, and the destination is chosen by Amazon when the return label is created. Sending a return directly to a warehouse address on this list will not be matched to your order. For sellers, FBA customer returns are graded at the receiving site and either returned to sellable inventory, held as unfulfillable for a removal order, or disposed of under Amazon's returns policy.

Are there Amazon warehouses in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?
+

Scotland has the Dunfermline fulfilment centre (EDI4) plus sortation and delivery sites in the central belt at Bathgate. Wales has the Swansea fulfilment centre (CWL1) plus delivery stations including Deeside and Port Talbot. Northern Ireland has delivery stations, including Belfast (DBT3) and Portadown (DBT4), but no fulfilment centre. Orders for Northern Ireland are picked in Great Britain and moved across by Amazon's own network.

Why does Amazon send my FBA shipment to a different warehouse than the one near me?
+

Amazon assigns the destination when you create the shipping plan, based on where it expects demand for your products, current capacity and your product size tier. It can also split one plan across several fulfilment centres. The assignment is not related to how close a site is to you. The address in the plan is the only address that will be checked in against your shipment, so always ship to that one even if another site is closer.
