Global brands running fulfillment through AMZ Prep

Typical weak points

What happens when pet care fulfillment gets treated like a standard SKU

Most pet care logistics failures trace back to a common denominator: a warehouse built for boxes, not food and medication. Here's what that costs, and what changes at AMZ Prep.

Kibble and treats spoil in transit

Without temperature control, summer heat degrades fats and oils in food and treats before they ship. You find out from a customer complaint, not a warehouse alert.

AMZ Prep: temperature-controlled storage, standard in every facility →

Expired stock ships anyway

Manual pick lists don't check expiry dates. Older batches sit behind newer ones until they ship past their date and become a return, or worse, a complaint.

AMZ Prep: FEFO routing enforced in the WMS →

Recall response takes days

A Class I pet food recall, the FDA's highest-risk tier, draws public scrutiny fast. A warehouse without lot-level tracking can't tell you which orders shipped an affected batch, or how fast.

AMZ Prep: Same-day batch query, full ship list →

Subscription programs break down

A generic 3PL treats recurring orders like one-off shipments. Missed cadence, out-of-stock replenishment SKUs, and no way for customers to self-manage their schedule.

AMZ Prep: Subscription cadence, pause, and swap handled end to end →

Regulatory documentation is missing

FDA, USDA, AAFCO labeling standards, and state-level pet product rules require documented handling procedures. Generic 3PLs don't track this, leaving you exposed during an audit.

AMZ Prep: Documented compliance procedures on file →

Channels run on separate inventory

Shopify, TikTok Shop, Amazon, and retail each pull from a different pool, so you're overselling in one channel while sitting on dead stock in another.

Temperature control when you need it, standard storage and prep when you don't

Not every pet product needs a climate-controlled environment. AMZ Prep runs both: temperature-controlled storage for food, treats, and medications, and standard ambient storage and prep for toys, accessories, bedding, and hardgoods, all from the same facility network.

Every pet food and treat-handling facility runs a monitored, temperature-controlled environment, with automated alerts and backup power during outages. Pet food fulfillment depends on this most: when kibble and treats are exposed to heat, fats and oils oxidize and turn rancid, stripping out nutritional value before the food ever reaches a bowl. Raw and freeze-dried diets need it even more, which is why frozen (-18°C and below) and refrigerated (2°C to 8°C) zones are available alongside standard ambient storage.

For everything else, from toys to leashes to bedding, general receiving, labeling, kitting, and prep run through the same warehouse platform without a special-handling premium. Batch and lot data is captured at receiving and held at the unit level through Navigate, our warehouse platform, built in rather than bolted on as a special request.

  • Continuous temperature and humidity monitoring with automated alerts, for the SKUs that need it
  • Frozen and refrigerated zones available for raw and freeze-dried diets
  • Standard ambient storage and prep for toys, accessories, and hardgoods, no special handling required
  • Batch and lot number logged at receiving, tracked to unit level
  • FEFO (first-expired-first-out) routing enforced automatically on perishables
  • Recall traceability: full ship list for any batch, same day, classified by FDA severity level

Every category, handled correctly

What pet products AMZ Prep handles

Pet brands carry more SKU variety than most categories: a single formula split across puppy, adult, and senior life stages, times three or four breed-size variants, can turn one product line into 15+ individual SKUs before packaging options are even counted. Each product type gets handled by its actual requirements, not a one-size-fits-all process.

Dry and wet food

Temperature-controlled storage, FEFO rotation, and batch tracking across life-stage and breed-size SKU variants.

Raw and frozen food

Dedicated frozen (-18°C and below) and refrigerated (2°C to 8°C) zones for raw, freeze-dried, and gently cooked diets.

Treats and chews

Fats and oils degrade fast outside a stable temperature range. Handled in the same controlled facilities as food.

Medications and supplements

Access-controlled, temperature-controlled storage with the same batch and expiry tracking applied to food.

Toys and enrichment

Standard ambient storage with kitting and bundling support for multi-item gift sets.

Bedding, litter, and carriers

Large-format and bulky item handling, with Seller Fulfilled Prime coverage to avoid high FBA storage fees.

Grooming and accessories

Small-item pick and pack accuracy for leashes, collars, and grooming tools, with barcode verification at every step.

Recurring revenue, run properly

Subscription and replenishment programs handled end to end

Pet care runs on repeat purchase more than almost any other category. A generic 3PL treats a subscription order like any one-off shipment, which is how replenishment SKUs go out of stock and cadences slip. Subscription scheduling, processing, and customer self-service are part of the standard workflow, not a bolt-on integration.

  • Recurring orders scheduled and processed automatically on cadence
  • Replenishment SKUs synced to inventory to prevent stockouts
  • Customers can adjust quantity, timing, or pause anytime
  • Custom kitting and subscription box assembly supported

One inventory pool, every channel

Pet care brands rarely sell in one place

Shopify, TikTok Shop, Amazon, and retail all draw from the same stock, so you're never overselling one channel while sitting on dead inventory in another.

DTC (Shopify, WooCommerce)

Same-day order processing, branded packaging, custom inserts, and two-day shipping across the US and Canada.

Amazon FBA + Seller Fulfilled Prime

Full FBA prep from a dedicated pet products Amazon warehouse network, plus SFP coverage for large-format items like litter and bedding that carry high FBA storage fees.

Retail (Walmart, Costco, Target)

EDI integration, routing guides, ASN generation, and a dedicated retail compliance team. Chargebacks tracked and managed.

TikTok Shop and social commerce

Few categories go viral like pets do. When a video spikes demand overnight, fulfillment needs to scale with the order surge instead of queuing behind it.

Side-by-side comparison

What pet care brands actually need from a fulfillment partner

Evaluating a pet care 3PL comes down to what's standard versus what gets treated as a custom build or a limitation. Here's where AMZ Prep sits against a generic provider.

Popular questions

Pet care fulfillment questions, answered

Pet food and treat storage is kept in a monitored, temperature-controlled environment with continuous tracking. Humidity is controlled separately. Backup power and automated alerts protect inventory during outages.

Four things: temperature-controlled storage for food and treats, automated batch and lot tracking for fast recall response, subscription program support, and documented handling for FDA, USDA, AAFCO labeling standards, and state pet product regulations. A pet care 3PL that treats any of these as a custom build will cost you more in spoiled inventory and recall delays than the upcharge ever saves.

Recurring orders are scheduled, processed automatically on cadence, and synced to inventory so replenishment SKUs stay in stock. Customers can adjust quantity, timing, or pause their subscription, and changes take effect on the next scheduled cycle.

AMZ Prep fulfills pet products across Shopify, WooCommerce, TikTok Shop, Amazon FBA and Seller Fulfilled Prime, Walmart, Costco, Target, and Faire, all from one inventory pool so stock stays synced across every channel a brand sells on.

Every shipment is logged with a batch and lot number at receiving. If a recall notice comes in, whether it's an FDA Class I, II, or III severity level, AMZ Prep can produce a full ship list for that batch the same day, so you know exactly which orders and customers are affected.

Yes. Medications and supplements are stored in the same temperature-controlled, access-controlled facilities as food and treats, with batch and expiry tracking applied the same way.

Minimums depend on product type, order volume, and the mix of FBA prep, DTC fulfillment, and retail distribution you need. Your account team confirms volume requirements during onboarding.

Yes. Returns are inspected and batch-verified, then restocked or quarantined based on your policy. Opened food, treats, and medications are quarantined per your brand's protocol rather than restocked.

Yes. Multi-item bundles, gift sets, and subscription box assembly are supported, along with custom inserts and branded packaging. Setup is included in onboarding; per-unit pricing depends on materials and complexity.

Yes. AMZ Prep ships to the US, Canada, UK, Germany, and the Netherlands from regional warehouses. International returns, customs paperwork, and compliance are handled by the cross-border team.
