Duty-free routes from India into UK stock
The India-UK trade agreement took effect on 15 July 2026. Around 99% of Indian goods now enter the UK duty free or at reduced rates. Textiles, clothing, leather, footwear, and processed foods carried the highest rates before.
Import VAT of 20% has not changed. It applies to the customs value plus inbound freight, and VAT-registered brands reclaim it as input tax.
Preference is not automatic. Every consignment needs a valid proof of origin at import, and the goods must meet the agreement’s rules of origin. Goods made in China and routed through India do not qualify.
The saving lands on bulk inbound freight. Consignments valued at £135 or less already entered the UK without duty, so pallets and containers into a UK 3PL are where the numbers move.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
A 3PL integrates with ecommerce through various technologies and methods, including API integration, EDI, XML, webhooks, Warehouse Management System integration, order management system integration, and shipping carrier integrations. This enables real-time inventory updates, automated order routing, streamlined fulfillment, accurate tracking and shipping, and an enhanced customer experience.
3PL services in Europe include warehousing, inventory management, order processing, and shipping across European countries. Providers like AMZ Prep take care of these logistical functions, allowing businesses to focus on other operational areas.
A 3PL service deals with shipping across the European common market by handling customs clearance and compliance with EU regulations, providing expertise in EU trade laws and tax regulations, and offering flexible transportation options. They utilize a network of European logistics partners and carriers, manage tracking and monitoring of shipments, and provide insurance and risk management solutions. They also offer tailored solutions for specific industries or products, comply with EU-specific regulations such as VAT and excise duties, and utilize EU-wide logistics hubs and distribution centers.
Two changes matter now. Brexit still drives UK to EU customs and compliance work. The India-UK trade agreement, live since 15 July 2026, removed duty on around 99% of Indian goods entering the UK. Claiming it requires valid proof of origin.
The retail and e-commerce industry uses 3PL services the most in Europe, driven by the need for fast and flexible delivery options to meet changing consumer demands.
Using a 3PL when starting an ecommerce business can be beneficial for cost savings, scalability, and expertise. However, consider factors like control, integration, quality, and costs. If starting small, handle logistics in-house, but as you grow, a 3PL can help you scale efficiently and improve customer satisfaction.
The main types of 3PL fulfillment in Europe include In-House Fulfillment, where the company manages its own logistics operations, Outsourced Fulfillment, where logistics are entirely handled by a 3PL provider, Dropshipping 3PL UK, where products are shipped directly from the supplier to the customer across the Europe from UK, and Hybrid Fulfillment, which combines in-house and outsourced logistics to create a customized solution that suits the company’s specific needs, allowing for flexibility and scalability in logistics operations.
A 3PL warehouse acts as a storage hub for a company’s products. Before items reach customers, they’re kept in these facilities. To ensure a steady supply of products, the 3PL works closely with the company to coordinate incoming shipments. These shipments, often in large quantities, might be managed by freight forwarders who specialize in moving goods from manufacturers to the warehouse.
The decision between handling fulfillment in-house or outsourcing to a 3PL depends on various factors. While in-house operations offer greater control, they also demand significant investment and resources. On the other hand, 3PL providers provide flexibility, expertise, and potential cost savings, allowing businesses to concentrate on core competencies. Ultimately, the best choice hinges on factors like order volume, product characteristics, budget, and desired control over the fulfillment process.
The European 3PL market is substantial and growing. Valued at a projected $279.8 billion in 2024, it’s expected to reach $310.2 billion by 2028, with a steady annual growth rate of 2.61%. This growth is driven by factors such as the increasing complexity of supply chains, the rise of e-commerce, and the need for efficient cross-border logistics. As businesses seek to optimize operations and focus on core competencies, the demand for specialized 3PL services continues to rise.
No. The agreement cuts customs duty only. UK import VAT of 20% still applies to the customs value plus freight. VAT-registered businesses can reclaim it as input tax.
The importer of record claims preference at entry. Your exporter supplies the origin declaration, or you use a certificate of origin. Confirm who holds this role before the first shipment moves.
