How Salty Face Cut Shipping Times in Half and Doubled Growth with AMZ Prep [Success Stories]
Discover how Salty Face, a Canadian premium tanning brand with a cult following, went from self-fulfilling out of a Vancouver office to delivering nationwide in 2x the speed with 98.5% on-time delivery, and now expanding into the US market.
From a Vancouver Office to a National Brand
After spending two decades in one of the rainiest cities in Canada, David and Bethany had a clear goal: bottle the sun-kissed feeling and bring it to everyone.
They built Salty Face around that vision. Premium tanning water, an instantly recognizable brand identity, and an organic community that grew into a cult following across TikTok and social media.
The product found its audience quickly. Not just in Canada, but across the US, where Salty Face is now available on Amazon and at Target. But as orders scaled on both sides of the border, fulfilling them from their own office outside Vancouver stopped being a viable path forward.
The Challenge
Salty Face was managing its own fulfillment in-house, shipping every order from a single location outside Vancouver.
Single-location shipping meant customers outside British Columbia faced long delivery windows. US customers faced even longer ones. Carrier options were limited. There was no flexibility to optimize rates or diversify risk.
Key hurdles the team faced:
- Slow shipping speeds to customers outside Vancouver
- No access to multi-carrier rate optimization across Canada or into the US
- Limited ability to maintain branded packaging standards at scale
- No infrastructure to support expansion into new regions and markets
- Growing US demand through Amazon and Target with no US fulfillment solution
The brand needed speed, smarter carrier access, and a fulfillment partner that could protect the customer experience from the moment an order was placed to the moment the box was opened.
The Solution
Salty Face partnered with AMZ Prep to move fulfillment out of their office and into a national network built for growth.
Three factors drove the decision.
Salty Face partnered with AMZ Prep to move fulfillment out of their office and into a network built for cross-border growth.
Three factors drove the decision.
Warehouse Location
AMZ Prep's network across Canada made it possible to optimize for Prime-like shipping experiences while keeping rates efficient nationwide. No single point of failure. No customers in Ontario or Quebec waiting an extra week for a BC shipment.
Shipping technology
Through AMZ Prep and eShipper, Salty Face gained access to 10+ carriers across the country, including the exclusive carrier Skip. Multi-carrier access meant the team could diversify risk, cut costs, and always route with the best carrier at the right time.
The diversified carrier mix gives us full coverage across Canada. SpeedX handles the bulk of ground shipping at competitive rates, and we always have alternatives ready if service levels need adjusting.
Branded Packaging
The curated unboxing experience is core to the Salty Face brand. AMZ Prep built that standard into the operation from day one, from branded packaging and tape to the way products are placed in every box.
US Market Expansion
As Salty Face grew, they needed US fulfillment infrastructure to match. AMZ Prep stood up operations out of the Dallas warehouse with a phased inventory migration, moving approximately 75 to 80% of US inventory from California to Texas. The US operation runs on ShipHero WMS while Canadian fulfillment uses Lodgic, keeping each market on its own optimized tech platform to minimize integration complexity.
The decision to maintain separate tech platforms for Canada and the US was deliberate. It keeps each market running on the best possible infrastructure without one side creating complexity for the other.
Sierra Hailstone, Salty Face Head of Operations, works directly with a dedicated AMZ Prep account team that includes a single point of contact for all fulfillment and shipping communications, weekly reporting on performance metrics, formal SLAs for both Canadian and US operations, and monthly business reviews to align strategy with growth targets.
